SPRAY TANS DON’T BEGIN
& END AT OUR DOORS
The end spray tan result is based on 50% of the artist's work and 50% on the client's preparation and aftercare of the tan. We can give you the best spray tan using the best products and technique, but without the right prep/aftercare it won't turn out as flawless as we want it to!
-
Exfoliate your skin & shower the night before the tan - DO NOT SHOWER ON THE DAY OF THE TAN BEFORE COMING TO THE APPOINTMENT.
If possible, exfoliate 2-3 times leading up to the day of the appointment with the last time being the night before. Do not do this right before the appointment.
Avoid scrubs with oils as they may leave an oil residue preventing the spray tan solution from soaking into your skin properly.
(Ask us about the exfoliation mitt we carry in-studio created specifically for spray tan preparation).
-
Drink lots of water on the days leading up to your spray tan so your skin is hydrated from the inside out. Hydrated skin holds the tan better!
-
Shave 24 hours before the tan, NOT the day of the tan.
Waxing should be done at least 48 hours prior so that no residue is left on the skin.
Manicures/pedicures should also be done 24-48 hours before the tan.
If you must do nails afterwards, we recommend just a polish change as you want to avoid any soaking & scrubbing that occurs with a full mani/pedi.
-
On the day of the tan, do not shower! You should have already done that the night before the appointment when exfoliating. Do not put any product on the skin. This includes lotion, oil, deodorant (especially spray deodorants or the Dove brand deodorant), serums, perfume, or makeup.
-
Bring dark, loose clothing. No jeans, leggings, or bras can be worn right after the appointment (unless you’re wearing the bra during the tan).
Wearing baggy sweatpants or loose pajama pants and a long sleeve shirt or baggy sweater is best. We want to avoid skin on skin contact immediately after the tan, so shorts and dresses are not ideal.
If it looks like it may rain, bring an umbrella as you cannot get your skin wet after the spray tan until your first shower.
Wearing slides or shoes that are not super tight is best. Loose socks are fine.
-
Please do not come to the appointment with jewelry on. Jewelry must be removed before arriving - especially bracelets, necklaces, and anklets.
Please leave all jewelry at home as you cannot put it back on after the tan, it often takes a lot of time to remove finicky necklaces or bracelets, and clients will regularly forget expensive and sentimental jewelry at our studio.
*We are not responsible for jewelry or any other valuable/sentimental items left at our studio or any lost/stolen items.

Late arrivals: please note we have a 10 minute grace period. Spray tans are a quick service and we’re often booked back to back so please allow yourself ample time to arrive on time and take into consideration the possibility of traffic. -
Immediately after the spray tan, before the first shower, you cannot get wet or sweat at all.
This means no washing dishes, no working out during the processing time, no crying, walking outside in the rain, etc.
Use this as an excuse to rest, relax, and just chill! You deserve it!
-
Do not touch your skin until after your first rinse!
This means no skin to skin contact with yourself or anyone else until your first shower.
Color may smudge or transfer from one part of your body to another (most commonly seen is the palms of the hands when people itch their face or another part of the body).
Wearing long sleeves/pants will help prevent this.
-
Your artist will tell you how many hours to wait before your first shower. This first shower is ONLY A RINSE using colder water! Avoid hot water -you don’t have to freeze, lukewarm is fine!
Do not wait longer to rinse than what the artist recommended or you run the risk of undesired results.
Do not use any product at all. This includes body wash, soap, scrubs, shampoo, conditioner, etc. Water only!
You'll see the bronzer coming off your body which is exactly what we want; rinse every part of your body and when the water runs completely clear you can get out.
Always pat skin dry with the towel, never rub your skin with the towel!
-
Moisturize your skin every single day using tan friendly products (you can purchase these at your appointment) to prolong the tan and keep it looking smoother.
Dry skin and spray tans do not mix well.
Most drugstore lotions/body washes will have ingredients that could strip the tan; we carry tan-safe lotions and body washes that can be purchased in-studio that will not strip your tan and will actually help to prolong it.
If possible, moisturize 2x per day.
Avoid Dove products, soap bars, spray deodorant, aerosol sunscreen, and products with mineral oil.
-
We recommend avoiding shaving with a spray tan but if you absolutely need to shave, use a brand new sharp razor rather than a dull razor that will scrape your skin.
Shave with conditioner or coconut oil, not shave gel.
NO WAXING and no laser while you have a spray tan.
-
Spray tans do not prevent you from the damage of UV rays.
You still need to wear SPF! We recommend the Sun Bum brand (use the lotion sunscreen product, not the aerosol).
Whether you normally burn in the sun or you normally tan in the sun, your skin will react the same way it usually does even with the spray tan.
-
If you want to prolong the tan, we recommend that you invest in some of our sunless tanning products at your appointment!
Our clear self-tanner touch up spray is great for refreshing the tan on areas that fade the quickest such as the face, hands, and feet.
Our spray tan safe lotions come in small travel sizes (carry-on friendly) or full sized!
Our spray tan friendly body washes not only smell yummy and luxurious, but they make a HUGE difference in maintaining your tan and how long it lasts. Soap bars and most body washes from drug stores will strip the tan quicker due to their ingredients.
